Hôtel du Palais, Between Sea and Sky
Positioned on a headland between two pristine beaches, Hôtel du Palais has been welcoming guests since 1893. Originally built as the private residence of the Emperor Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie, this spectacular national monument blends glamour and sophistication with Basque country warmth.
Just steps from the pretty town centre of Biarritz and a short 10min drive from the airport, Hôtel du Palais boasts 153 rooms and suites, which look onto the Atlantic Ocean or the Biarritz and the domed Orthodox Church. All of our luxurious rooms combine refined décor with every modern amenity and reflect the ‘Belle Epoque’ era in which the hotel was born.
Antique furniture, turn-of-the-century Lalique-style lamps, and gilded cabinets and chandeliers feature throughout the hotel and contribute towards a majestic atmosphere.
Hôtel du Palais is home to three restaurants, including one Michelin starred Villa Eugenie, which serves mouth-watering rich French cuisine featuring locally caught seafood and regional produce. Guest can enjoy breath-taking views over the Ocean whilst savouring their breakfast, lunch and dinners at the grandiose restaurant La Rotonde.
Hôtel du Palais takes wellness very seriously and this is reflected in its comprehensive five-story spa, which caters for every pampering indulgence. The Spa Imperial encompasses a 15 metre indoor heated pool, saunas, hamams, a Leonor Grey hair care institute, fully equipped gym, and a Guerlain Spa.
Overlooking the Grand Plage, the California-style salt-water pool appears a natural extension of the Atlantic Ocean. It offers two 33-metre swimming lanes, and private cabanas are available upon prior request. The pool deck is ideal for sunbathing or to enjoy a cocktail while you watch the sun set over the sea.
From Bayonne to Bilbao, from the coast to the Pyrénées and the countryside, the Basque Country features a multitude of landscapes, cultural, gastronomical and sporting experiences. Biarritz is by tradition a welcoming city. Since the XIX century the city has opened its arms to kings, emperors, Russian princes, maharajahs and movie stars. Its surroundings are packed with activities to inspire and delight. There are great golf courses, beaches that sweep towards the Pyrenees and nearby villages to explore inland.
