Luxury Escape in North Carolina

The finest Southern hospitality is offered in the warmth and gentility of The Fearrington House Country Inn.  Located near Chapel Hill, North Carolina, The Fearrington House is the perfect choice for the discriminating traveler.  Days are spent strolling the expansive gardens, browsing unique village shops, experiencing a soothing massage or just relaxing on a front porch rocker watching the pasture full of curious belted Galloway cows.  Fearrington is located just 45 minutes from Raleigh/Durham International Airport. They can also arrange for personal transportation to and from the airport.

Adjacent to the original Fearrington home which now houses the fine-dining restaurant, inn rooms are clustered around a courtyard, or overlook the charming village and parks.  Stunning vistas of trellised gardens, water sculptures, and manicured English gardens surround the inn and restaurant.  Each of the 35 guest rooms at this charming North Carolina country inn is created with its own unique character – European antiques, original artwork, rich fabrics, marble vanities, and heated towel racks cater to personal comfort. Distinctive touches include canopied beds and pine flooring from a workhouse along the River Thames.  The guest rooms and suites include luxurious amenities such as plush feather beds, micro-fiber robes, European Molton Brown bath products and beautiful fresh flowers.

When we checked in, we were personally escorted to our room with a beautiful old key. Upon entering, there was a chilled bottle of champagne waiting for us. We were shown every detail, down to the heated towel racks in the bathroom. Our service was absolute amazing.

The gracious Fearrington House Restaurant, recognized for its sophisticated contemporary cuisine and personable service, promises guests a unique fine dining experience. Located in the original Fearrington farm home-place, the series of small, elegant dining rooms feature views of the stunning gardens; each is furnished with European antiques, and accented with original Southern art that creates an understated elegance. Now a Certified Green Restaurant™. Afternoon tea is served throughout the week and is an experience not to miss!

Chef Colin Bedford and his team take great pride in procuring the finest quality ingredients for the AAA Five Diamond Fearrington House Restaurant’s sophisticated contemporary cuisine. The menus change frequently to reflect the changing seasons and available local produce. The Fearrington House gardens supply herbs, vegetables, edible flowers and micro herbs for the restaurant throughout the year.  The hands-on cooking classes are a wonderful experience for any culinary enthusiast.

The luxuriously decorated spa rooms at The Fearrington House provide a tranquil environment to experience a range of massages. Their massage therapists will assist you in selecting the treatment that is best suited to your needs.  Fearrington also offers guests a wide range of fitness activities to help maintain your physical well-being. There are bikes that you can take out and ride around the property. We made our way down to the Olympic sized pool and spent the day relaxing in the beautiful summer sun.

Not only is Fearrington’s central location ideal for visiting the Appalachian Mountains or the Carolina coast, it also offers access to plenty of attractions and recreation right here in the Triangle area. Tour one of many fascinating museums, spend an afternoon fishing or boating on a beautiful lake, play a round of golf at a nearby championship golf course, attend a blockbuster concert event, or cheer on your favorite team at one of the region’s many collegiate and professional sporting events. Whether you are planning a visit or thinking about making Fearrington your home (you can buy homes on the property), you can be sure that there will always be something exciting to do nearby.

Ask the front desk where to go for some local North Carolina Barbecue and they will send you down the road to a little place that looks like a house. You are in the right spot. On the entry door, there is a little sticker that says Opera like this place, and for good reason! The food was AMAZING!

We stopped at Gem Mountain on our way home. It was fun being out in the Carolina mountains but the rocks are not worth much of anything so go for the experience and not for the “gems”.
