Baja’s Winter Whale Watching Season

~ New Itinerary Reveals Mammals’ Majestic Migrating Patterns & Region’s Ecological Wonders ~

Winter is the best time for whale watching along the Pacific coast, and annually, through mid-March, more than 25,000 gray whales will migrate over 5,000 miles from the frigid waters of Alaska’s Bering Sea to the balmy peninsula of Baja California in Mexico. Their round-trip journey is considered one of the longest of any mammal migrations. These fascinating animals are frequently visible from land, and while whale-watching opportunities are quite plentiful from shore, up close and personal interaction with these impressive creature are the highlight of Brendan Vacations’ new 7-day Boutique Journeys itinerary titled, “Baja California and the Great Gray Whale Migration.”

“Snorkel among sea lions, commune with giant gray whales in a Pacific Lagoon, or hike atop sea cliffs and descend into a dramatic desert canyon. All this, while staying at carefully-selected hotels in character-filled towns,” says Nico Zenner, President of Brendan Vacations. “This itinerary captures the essence of Baja California Sur and its breathtaking ecological region. Experience the famous Hotel California, popularized in the Eagles’ famous 70s-era song in Todos Santos, and enjoy visits to La Paz, Isla Espiritu Santo, Magdalena Bay and San Carlos. There are also options for SCUBA diving, fishing and horseback riding for all of our guests.”

Given the seasonality of gray whale migration patterns, this Boutique Journey is only available for a very limited time with only two departures set for February 24th and March 3rd, 2013 and February 8th and February 15th for 2014.

baja

All of Brendan’s Boutique Journeys accommodate as few as two guests and a maximum of only 24, letting you delve deeper into local traditions, bond more tightly with your travel companions and interact more personally with the people and experiences you engage along the way – all with the added peace of mind that your journey will always travel as scheduled, as every departure in the catalog is guaranteed.

Baja California and the Great Gray Whale Migration is 7 days and priced from $3,225 land only, based on double occupancy. Hotels include the Seven Crown Centro Hotel in La Paz, the Hotel Brennan in San Carlos, and the Hotel California in Todos Santos.

Day 3: Los Angeles

The most interesting and popular sight in Venice Beach is the beach, but it’s not the surf and sand that take center stage here. It’s the lively sidewalk scene. Venice Beach is a place where you’ll find artists, palm readers and bikini-clad roller skaters mixing with chanting, saffron-clad Hare Krishnas and wriggling belly dancers. Points of Interest include; • Venice Boardwalk – It’s really more of a sidewalk than a “board” walk, but a walk down it is the best way to explore the waterfront scene. You’ll pass street performers, skaters, artists, gawkers and vendors selling all kinds of items from incense to sarongs. • Muscle Beach: This is the place where Arnold Schwarzenegger and hosts of other body-builders have “bulked up” in the outdoor weight room. If you’d like to have your day in the sun, you can buy a day pass at the office. • Venice Canals: A few blocks remain out of some 16 miles of manmade waterways that once graced Venice-of-America, founded in 1905 by local developer Abbot Kinney. You can walk along them in the area bordered by Washington, South Venice Blvd., Pacific Ave. and Ocean Ave.

Accommodation: Sheraton Universal (4*)

Day 4: Los Angeles

Explore L.A. on any of these optional tours: Discover the Farmer’s Market and West Third Street on the L.A. Food Tasting Walking Tour where you will enjoy food tastings from a diverse array of cuisines. The Car may be King in L.A., but the best way to discover the city like a local is by foot. There are a number of walking tours available, whether it’s the Behind The Scenes Hollywood Tour, Historic Downtown L.A., Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, or the Contemporary Downtown L.A., you will feel like you’ve really seen L.A.! Love architecture? Try the Architecture Tour of Hollywood or Architecture Tour of West Hollywood and Beverly Hills. Day 6: Las Vegas

There is certainly not a lack of things to do in Las Vegas! For the nature lovers, there are a number of adventure tours available. See the Grand Canyon South Rim on our Grand Canyon VIP Adventure Tour available by helicopter, 4X4 jeep or a minibus. There are helicopter tours available on a private or a shared basis – from sunrise to sunset – two of the most spectacular times of the day to view the natural site. From here, you will travel to the incredible Valley of Fire, which was once the spiritual center of this great Early American Civilization. The rock formations and Indian art will amaze you. You want to see more? If you are at all interested in engineering, you will appreciate Hoover Dam – Consider a day trip to Black Canyon on the Colorado River, where you will see Hoover Dam, the highest structure of its kind in the world. You will be taken to the Visitor Center where you will have a tour of the Dam, including the interior. You will have stunning views from the eastern edge of the canyon on the Arizona side of Lake Mead, the world’s largest man-made lake, and the Dam, from high above. We also have tours to Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park as well as Colorado River rafting trips. Please let your Sales Advisor know if you are interested in any of these options.

Enjoy the “City of Lights” from the best view possible…THE SKY! This is an amazing helicopter tour flying over the megaresorts of the Las Vegas Strip from the New York-New York skyline to the Bellagio fountains and the never-fading light of the Luxor pyramid. Prior to your departure from our Las Vegas terminal, you will be served champagne to toast your night flight as you experience breathtaking sights from inside the “limousine of the sky” – an ECO-Star helicopter.
